Archive for the ‘That’s How I Roll…in my head’ Category

I have noticed that I have been using this more and more for my journey and less on actually just giving my two cents on anything. So instead of moving all of my post to another site, I am changing the name to Unmasked, and moving Doug’s 2 Cents and changing it’s name to: D2C

I know football season is starting, and I have had a few people wondering if I would go back to talking about it again. I don’t want anyone to be disappointed, so I will use D2C to post on sports and general topics, but mostly football. I am still in the middle of changing everything around for both of them and I don’t know how often I will feel like posting on the two bestest teams in sports today, but I will try and keep it updated.

This way I can concentrate on my journey and keep more of a journal with this site.

There are a few things lately that bug me. First is that ASU wants to change it’s mascot and name, because they feel that it is an insult to native Americans. This bothers me because it is not done in conjunction with Native Indians, and instead of getting together with them to find something we can use that would honor their name, and to see how they feel about it, it is decided by a group of non-American Indians to decide we should do away with everything Native Indian. There is a mixed feeling about this among American Indians, some feel it an insult, and some feel that it is okay. I understand that some of the images used in sports may be considered racist and this could be changed not by discarding American Indians all together, but working together to improve the image. Should we not have a name like the Indians? Caddo, Choctaw, Quapaw just to name a few are Arkansas tribes, so there is a connection. The image is a stoic American Indian chief, is this bad? Let’s call them the ASU Clinton’s but then it is an image of a white man which is not fair to others either, and which is an insult to me in connection with him. The safest way to change all of it is to have an animal as the mascot but then we might hear from PETA.

No smoking in Disney family oriented films. This part does not bother me really, they shouldn’t have smoking in family movies, but how about the funny drunk uncle? Or the social drinking by family members? I don’t find anything wrong with a drink now and then, but I do not want my kids thinking that to enjoy drinking you have to drink enough to be the ‘life’ of the party.

Your weight is contagious to others. Yeah, I am overweight and out of all of my friends, and my wife, I am the only one that is actually overweight. Why can’t I convince all the others that this is the way to go?

Just my gripes for the day. I might change my mind tomorrow, but I like to spout off without thinking sometimes.

We interrupt this baseball season for a few words on da football.  Only four months and 26 days before the Hogs play against Alabama, Aug. 15, in expectation for this great event I have included a D. Mac video to put the fear in the other teams. They ask ‘How do you stop #5?’ How do you stop #5 indeed. I also like the play against LSU. From what I hear Mustain will be going to USC to be a Trojan, sorry Trojans.

Also, four months and 24 days until preseason games start for the Broncs, Aug. 13, I included a rewind of Cutlers season and a rewind of the ’06-’07 season of the Broncs. ’07-’08, ‘The Broncos will win..the AFC..’ Sing it loud, with feeling this time.

Yesterday I posted a page of quotes, I had 135 hits that is 134 more hits then normal, and it was something that I didn’t even write. Whenever I get a lot of hits in one day I am always nervous about my next post, because the numbers usually plummet. Maybe because I try too hard, or not enough. When I get a successful day it is when I am not trying, maybe that is how it is in my Christian life also.

The days that I am trying too hard to show what a wonderful Christian I can be, people see right through me. The rare days that I am truly letting my light shine, are probably days that I am leaning on God most and not realizing how it might look to others, because I am too caught up in hearing Him. Maybe when I think that it is me doing anything, it is seen as me doing nothing. When I lean on God and it is He that is doing everything, I can never think that it was me doing anything. Make sense?

Yesterday Donna commented about the Braves, I tried to tell her of my curse that I carried with me during football season and I really, really hoped that it would not follow me over to baseball, but we lost last night. 2-0 Braves being the 0, man! Dusty said that it had to be back because we were playing against Washington! Not one of the strongest teams in the league. I am sorry Braves brothers and sisters, but we are still 7-2. I don’t think that it will or anything but if the curse comes back and the Braves start to go down I will just watch from afar, and support in a quite civil manner. I am not superstitious because I heard that being superstitious was bad luck.

Hudson said that he would show the Braves that they did the right thing by bringing him in 3 years ago. I guess three’s a charm. We watched the first hour and a half of the game until House came on..House takes precedent over baseball. But I got to see the 2 run hit by Francouer which brought us to a 3-0 lead, but I find out later that I missed the 3 run homerun hit Francouer did later. 8-0 final score. Last night the AB part of the CRAB experience did well. The CR part of my experience, not so good. 2-1 the Rockies being the 1, against the Dodgers. They did win against them Mon. though hopefully they will pull a win out tonight. If the Cards can win two in a row anything is possible.

I am declaring officially that I am a CRAB, and proud of it. I have decided to back the Rockies and the Braves this football season. Go ahead and laugh, but they both are starting out well, the Rockies are bound to have a good year sometime, and this just might be that year, since Nee is from Colorado we try to back all the Colorado teams, the good, the bad, and the ugly. (The bad and ugly being slang for cool and..the fourth quarters of the Broncs games) And the reason I am going for the Braves is I remember when Dave Justice was playing for the Braves, and even with his high and lows, no pun intended, I had pretty good memories of the games. So there you go, those are my teams for aught 7, even though it drives some red headed preachers crazy in how I go about willy nilly tying my cart to some team, still it isn’t like I pick ringers that’s for sure. (ok, for now the CRAB experience is W:3-L:1, but we’re only four games in so that doesn’t count.)

Until next time I have TWO WORDS FOR YA!

PLAY BALL!!

The Hogs need to straighten up. Even a man named Dana lasted 24 hours before turning tail and running. I have waited to talk about this because what is there really to say about this? Part of the reason he gave was academics, the most part I believe he was homesick, a hard thing to overcome in AR apparently, and then we find the dreaded marijuana scandals. If he really cared about the academics he would have stayed and worked with the school. It reminds me of a kid at camp. ‘Ha! You’re just homesick.’, ‘Well, that and you’re stupid.’

I am not a big basketball fan so this shouldn’t concern me much, but this is beginning to be a trend within the Razorback athletic dept. I am glad baseball season is revving up, but I know at the end of the season the curse will probably raise it’s ugly red head. Which can effect my team come football season. We must shake this curse..but how? I am calling Broyles today and throwing my hat in the ring. I wouldn’t know the first thing in coaching basketball but at least they wouldn’t have to worry about me getting homesick.
